Eli designed an ultra cool duct tape car this year for the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby.
We put some weights on the bottom of the car at the last minute and the seemed to get caught on the track a little bit, so he didn't place like he did last year. He still had a blast racing and we all enjoyed watching all the different heats. I love and appreciate that our scout leaders structure the event so that all the boys get lots of opportunities to race. Lesson for next year...weights on top!
Eli was pretty sad that Dad couldn't make it to the Derby because he had school that weekend. We tried to skype him during Eli's heats, but had some technical difficulties, so we texted a few pictures instead. With our various commitments, all of which we know are important for our family at this time and season, we're learning over and over again to cherish the little moments. Things like the Pinewood Derby, or a baseball game, or snuggling on the couch for a movie night have more significance in our lives now that we simply don't have time to take the little things for granted. I love this quote:
"Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them, all of it has always been big stuff." -Catherine M. Wallace
