Goodbye 2010

Last year, at the beginning of the year, I entered a blog giveaway to win a silver stamped necklace. To enter, I had to pick my "word" for 2010. Most people were posting words like, faith, hope, love, service. I picked "dinner." In 2010 I wanted to be better about planning and cooking dinner for my family. I wanted to improve my cooking skills, have regular family sit-down-at-the-table-together dinners, eat healthier, and spend less money eating out. While I had a lot of 2010 failures, I think I did succeed at dinner. It's kind of funny that I even remember entering that little giveaway a year ago. It was insignificant at the time, but made for a good goal in the end. Luckily I didn't win the necklace though, "dinner" would be a weird thing to wear around your neck!

The annual making of the cabbage rolls. Mine burned. Grandmom's were perfect. I learned this year as I made Grandmom retell the story (read here) again, that the grocer was Hungarian. Makes sense!

New Year's Eve we went bowling, out to lunch, and then hung out as a family watching movies, doing puzzles, and eating junk food.

I am so glad to read this post! I love the goal because I am constantly in a state of the dinner goal! I make dinner but it is usually disappointing. I think it would be pretty funny to have a necklace that said dinner but if I could master it maybe I'd wear it proudly!

Danelle, I love cabbage rolls. I learned to make them in Lithuania (on my mission), so they might be a little different, but I could seriously live off a pot of cabbage rolls for days! (And I have.) So delicious. I like the story that goes along with your tradition, too.

Thanks for saying hi on my blog. I completely agree with you. I think we'd bed good friends! And hey, isn't it lucky that we have the internet and we CAN be good friends! :) We (at least, I) need all the good friends we (I) can get!

Happy New Year!
