Love at Home

It's been a fairly uneventful week. You know, besides the usual bouts of chaos. After feeling like the worst mother alive one day last week, I set a goal to not raise my voice anymore. I read a great article on the topic here. So far I've done pretty well. I'm hoping my quieter voice will rub off on the kids soon, but no signs of that yet! I do feel like our home is more calm and less contentious though. The hardest part is getting every one's attention when they're all being loud and screaming, or are upstairs when I need them downstairs. I read in a magazine once about a woman who would always go and get her kids instead of yelling for them to come because she would often find them doing great things that she could then compliment them on. Hence, I've been trying to climb the stairs more to fetch the children. It's been a good change. But I've caught my kids in the act of naughtiness a time or two.

The "No Hair Foberts" (No hair - Fo bear, get it?) So what that it's the dead of winter, my boys are all sporting the buzz cut. We do live in California after all.

Sweet Daddy love. Isn't it great? They really are cute if I do say so myself!

Here's the situation: Ben's working late. The kids are finally in bed. I'm sitting in the recliner. Catching my favorite show. Eating dinner in peace. And here comes Liam. Elbows on the arm of my chair, "but I don't waaaaaana go to sleeeeeeeep." I won. Just in case you were wondering.

You're so great! I need to follow your example! I was trying to be a little better and it lasted about 2 days, I do need to try harder.

I need to try harder also. I like the idea of actually going and getting the kids instead of just screaming for them. Thanks for the ideas!

Your kids are adorable! Thanks for the blog updates!

This is my #1 new year's resolution: less yelling, more slow to anger. I say I stop being a nice mommy at 6:00. Thank you for the article - that will really help me in my efforts! Us girls whose husbands work late need all the help we can get.

There are a lot of moments when I have to say that my wife is the greatest! She outshines me in the parenting realm. I don't know how I ended up with her...but I'm sure lucky.

You suck! I mean that in the nicest way possible! :) Ask Ben for my story on this topic- I called while you were shopping. My no yelling attempt lasted...so few hours I can't even say! I will try again tomorrow! and the next day...and the next... :) miss you!
